| Selecting
a Company Name |
| A
proposed name of a company may be refused by the
Registrar of Companies if he considers it to be
too similar to that of any existing company, or
if he finds it otherwise unacceptable. For example,
if it is phonetically similar to an existing company,
or if a proposed title contains words similar
to that of an existing company. A suggestion of
state sponsorship would also be a reason for a
refusal by the CRO. |

| Selecting
a Business Name |
| In
circumstances registration of a business name
is obligatory if any individual or partnership
or any company carries on business under a name
other than their own true names. The reason why
a business name must be registered is to make
public the identities of those individual(s),
partnerships or corporate bodies being the legal
entity behind the business name. This is carried
out with the Register of Business Names in Ireland. |
